Gary and the girls and I attended the unveiling of a monument to honor those Confederate soldiers and southern sympathizer ancestors who fought for the Confederacy during the Civil War. According to the newspaper, "This monument was sponsored by the St. Clair County Historical Society and the Colonel John T. Coffee Camp #1934 Sons of Confederate Veterans, places emphasis on remembering the nine citizens that were executed in the vicinity of the Osceola Square in September 1861, and then buried in a mass grave in the Osceola Cemetery. This occured during the burning of Osceola."
